Miyamura Scholarship Award Program

When the scholarship funds were transferred to the MEF in 2010, the following criterion was developed as guidelines for both the MEF and the Hiroshi Miyamura High School (HMHS) administration staff to help in the selection of graduating recipient(s) that apply for this scholarship award. This scholarship program was to continue annually until all donated funds were depleted from the Miyamura scholarship account. In-addition, this award(s) is/are given to the designated graduate(s) as a one-time grant to be used within the year following their High School Class graduation. The scholarship award amount is determined by the MEF board of directors based on the accumulated amount of money in the scholarship account and the number of awards given, it is/was meant to be a supplemental amount paid towards the student's college financial expenses.

As the preliminary application tool for the prospective HMHS Senior applicant, it was noted that the Paul Hanson scholarship form could be used to be consistent with forms and that it requests all the essential information. HMHS councilors would developed a rubric to select the awardees based on the primary award criteria (see below) that Hershey Miyamura provided and asked to be setup in the Miyamura HS Scholarship program. The scholarship funds were to be used towards either academics or vocational trade schools depending on where the recipient decided to further their education or trade skills. The funds are provided to pay for tuition, books, supplies and things that are essential and necessary for the student to attend classes or trade skill training.

When the selected graduate returns their forms identifying the institution where they plan to attend. Then scholarship funds are sent directly to the institution's financial department in the selected student's name (rather than giving directly to the student) crediting their account. If the MEF Treasurer does not receive these forms back from the individual award recipient we can process the scholarship and no funds shall be issued on their behalf. Therefore, it is incumbent upon the recipient to fill out the basic info and a Federal IRS W-9 forms and return them in order to receive the scholarship award.
